Open Position: Southern California Director – Full Time
California Interfaith Power & Light inspires and mobilizes individuals and communities of faith and conscience to take bold and just action on climate change.
We are seeking to fill a key leadership position: Southern California Director. This is an excellent opportunity to work with the Southern California faith community on energy efficiency, renewable energy, education, and advocacy, to advance climate justice for all.
Organization:
California Interfaith Power and Light (CIPL) is a statewide organization mobilizing communities of faith & conscience to become leaders in addressing climate impacts, building resiliency, adopting solutions, and advocating for climate justice. CIPL has 720+ congregational members across the state taking proactive steps by greening their facilities, teaching, and preaching about the moral imperative to act on climate, and public policy advocacy. This is an opportunity to join a unique and dynamic organization in a key leadership position.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement annual outreach strategy and workplan
- Lead efforts to recruit congregations of all major faith traditions to join CIPL
- Support regional working groups (local affiliates)
- Work with congregations to help them green their facilities and equip themselves as resiliency hubs for their communities
- Organize outreach and educational events, in person and online
- Bring faith voices to local and state policy advocacy for climate action
- Promote local energy conservation/rebate programs
- Fulfill deliverables for grants, such as project management and clean transportation rebates and incentives
- Assist in grants research, application writing and reports
- Use e-blasts and social media effectively to communicate with our supporters and community
Qualifications:
B.A. or B.S. in Environmental Sciences or other related field; may consider prior experience in place of degree
At least 3-5 years organizing experience on environmental or related field
At least two years project management or leadership position
Working knowledge of climate and energy policy
Experience with grant writing or other fundraising
Strong writing skills
Good overall communication skills
Ability to manage work time effectively
Experience working with the religious community a plus
Knowledge of California legislative process a plus
Spanish language skills a plus
Salary and benefits:
The salary range for this position is $64,000 – $78,000 annually, commensurate with experience. We provide full medical, dental, and vision benefits, Simple IRA retirement account with 3% matching contributions, generous vacation policy, half-day Fridays.
