Global Ten Prayer – Communal, Healing, Empowerment
Welcome!
The G10P is a large-scale, interfaith, communal weekly prayer for all of Creation. The suggested time for this prayer is Thursdays from 4:00pm – 4:10pm according to your time zone. These weekly prayers can be said at any other time that is convenient for you. You may also bring the prayer to meetings and social get-togethers, and send them to your colleagues and friends. You may use the prayer that is suggested, one of your own, or sit in quiet meditation for the allotted time, sending loving, positive energy to the particular situation.
The “schedule” of prayers will follow four quarterly themes – Water, Earth, Air Quality and Renewable Energy (based on the four elements of Water, Earth, Air, and Fire.) Each theme will have 13 weeks of topics related to it with specific situations to pray for. See below for the first quarter schedule of prayers, based on the theme of Water, which is the source of life.
Click here to receive weekly reminders of the upcoming week’s prayer and other ways you may act on behalf of Creation.
We are putting together a list of faith prayers for Creation. Would you like to add a prayer or suggested situation to pray for? Email it to allis@interfaithpower.org.
Prayer Schedule: First Quarter on the theme of Water
Upcoming Weeks:
Thursday, November 8 – Water—Shortage of Water – let us pray for those affected by water shortage all over the world, illustrated by National Geographic.
Prayer:
We are water – the oceans flow through our veins,
and our cells are inflated with water,
out metabolic reactions mediated in aqueous solutions…
a sacred liquid that links us all to the oceans of the world
and ties us back in time to the very birthplace of all life.
David Suzuki, The Sacred Balance – (from The Green Devotional: Active Prayers for a Healthy Planet)
Thursday, November 15 – Water—Water Scarcity in Africa – we recognize that many face water shortages, especially in Africa, partly as a result of climate change and with devastating effects.
Prayer:
The prophecy of my people was that someday the great Sea Eagle would descend from the mountains of ice and that she would carry with her a fresh scent of knowledge combined with wisdom. After melting the ice in the heart, who you are – the real beauty and wisdom – will shine forth naturally. When you are trained to hear what your heart is saying and you live out its messages, you will see with eyes of faith into the future and see the difference. Unless the journey within is made and the distance conquered, [humankind] will not realize [its] immensity and learn to soar like the eagle. Melting the ice in the heart of [humankind] means that the world we live in will have a change to change.
Angaangaq Lyberth, Icewisdom.com – (from The Green Devotional: Active Prayers for a Healthy Planet)
Thursday, November 22 – Water—Healthy Water Scarcity in Flint, MI – as many folks in the U.S. celebrate Thanksgiving, let us truly be grateful for the gifts of the land and pray and fight injustice affecting those who do not have access to life-giving water.
Prayer:
Of all our natural resources, water has become the most precious…In an age when [humanity] has forgotten its orgins and is blind even to its mot essential needs for survival, waster, walong with other resources has become the victim of our indifference.
Rachel Carson, Silent Spring – (from The Green Devotional: Active Prayers for a Healthy Planet)
Thursday, November 29 -Water—Those Who Walk Daily for Water – many of us take for granted easy access to water. Let us pray for the millions of people who walk miles each day for life-giving water for drinking, cooking, bathing and agriculture.
Prayer:
We made from water every living thing…
Consider the water which you drink.
Was it you that brought it down from the rain clouds or We?
If We had pleased, We could make it bitter.
Qur’an: 21:30, 56:68-70
The G10P welcomes people of faith from all over the world from all faith traditions to harness the powerful energy of prayer for all of Creation. At this time in our history, environmental crises are affecting a wide range of situations. Now, more than ever before, we are called to unite as a faithful body more strongly and respond with action, love and prayer, recognizing that we are all part of Creation. As we pray for the transformation of our world, we recognize that it is our own personal conversion that must take place as well.
