California communities are uniting in Ventura, CA on July 17 to demand freedom from fossil fuels to stop the accelerating climate crisis and fossil-fueled extreme fires, heatwaves and drought. Join a march to urge Governor Newsom to follow the lead of Ventura’s climate leaders and stop the expansion of the So Cal Gas Compressor Station and to conduct an Environmental Impact Report. This Compressor Station was identified by NASA as a super-emitter of methane, a climate change accelerant, as well as other toxins associated with fracked gas like benzene and formaldehyde.
This compressor station is adjacent to an elementary school and the Boys and Girls Club, relegating children to a sacrifice zone next to this leaking and dangerous facility. This compressor station’s proximity to children and families is unheard of compared with similar facilities nationwide that are in isolated regions, away from communities.
So Cal Gas never notified the public about this expansion project. State agencies are now denying responsibility to formally review the project after failing to notify the public. Governor Newsom has the power to help the Ventura community get due process, at minimum and Environmental Impact Report (EIR), for this project expansion. His leadership is needed now to protect public health and honor the community’s wishes for an EIR.
