On Tuesday, June 24th, we welcomed 27 faith advocates from across California to Sacramento for our Advocacy Day, Courage for the Common Good. Together, we put our faith into action by meeting with 30 legislative offices to advocate for climate policies that protect our communities and care for our shared home.
The day began in fellowship and reflection at St. John’s Lutheran Church, where advocates gathered for a short briefing before heading to the Capitol. We are deeply grateful to St. John’s for their generous hospitality and faithful witness.
From Unitarian Universalists to Catholics, Buddhists to Jews, Protestants to Muslims, our diverse coalition stood together in the spirit of justice, compassion, and stewardship. All carried the shared belief that faith must be more than words—it must be action. By coming together across traditions, we showed that climate justice is not a partisan issue—it’s a spiritual one.
Together, advocates urged legislators to support:
- SB 868 – Balcony Solar: Expanding access to plug-in balcony solar systems so more Californians, including renters, can participate in and benefit from the clean energy transition.
- SB 222 – Heat Pump Streamlining: Removing barriers that make it easier for households to install efficient, all-electric heat pumps.
- SB 954 – CEQA Safeguards: Protecting California’s environmental review process while supporting responsible manufacturing.
- AB 2461 – Gas Wells Cleanup: Holding operators accountable for cleaning up idle and abandoned oil and gas wells that threaten communities and the environment.
- AB 2313 – Energy Autonomy: Expanding local clean energy opportunities and strengthening community resilience.
Advocacy is one of the most powerful ways we live out our values. Across traditions, we are called to seek justice, care for creation, and protect those most vulnerable to climate change. Every conversation with a legislator was an opportunity to bear witness to those shared moral commitments.

Our next Advocacy Day will be held in August (the exact date is TBD) and participating is even easier. This virtual advocacy day will take place entirely on Zoom, allowing you to meet with legislators from the comfort of your home while joining people of faith from across California in advocating for climate justice.
