California Interfaith Power and Light (CIPL) is a network
of over 460 congregations representing the faith community,
and advocating for a religious response to global warming
through the promotion of energy conservation, energy efficiency
and renewable energy. In 2006, we partnered with hundreds
of congregations to show the movie An Inconvenient Truth,
and we continue to work throughout California to educate and
inspire action to deal with this global threat to Creation.

*Lights Out SF Event: October 20*
Lights Out San Francisco and California Interfaith Power
and Light have partnered for an historic citywide energy conservation
event on Saturday, October 20, 2007, from 8-9 p.m. On this
night, we ask the entire city of San Francisco businesses,
residences, churches, and government offices to turn
off all non-essential lighting and to install one compact
fluorescent light bulb (CFL) energy-efficient light bulb.
The goal of Lights Out San Francisco is to raise awareness
and educate San Franciscans about the small changes they can
make to protect our planet from the effects of the climate
crisis.
Turning lights out in San Francisco for even one hour could
save as much as 15 percent of the energy consumed on an average
Saturday night. To promote long-term energy savings and to
raise awareness of the event, we will distribute free CFLs
throughout San Francisco.
In addition to support from California Interfaith Power and
Light, Lights Out San Francisco has attracted significant
support from local businesses, sponsors, the city of San Francisco,
and the Golden Gate Bridge Authority.
To participate in Lights Out SF, please e-mail jessica@interfaithpower.org
with your interest as soon as possible.

*CIPL Global Warming Advocacy Day
2007 Recap: Sept 5th in Sacramento*
On September 5th, CIPL brought clergy and religious representatives
to Sacramento for a Global Warming Advocacy Day in the State
Capitol. With 23 meetings packed into a single day, CIPL promoted
AB1470, Assemblymember Jared Huffmans bill to provide
incentives for residential solar water systems, a companion
to the Million Solar Roofs law that was passed last year,
alongside other important legislation including SB375 (Transportation
and Smart Growth) and AB1058 (Green Building Standards).
If you couldn't make it to Sacramento with us on September
5th, don't worry, CIPL is compiling an online Action Center
on its website to provide links to important legislation.
Stay tuned!
