Great News! The annual CIPL Lobby Day was a huge success.
On June 17th, clergy and faith leaders from around California joined together in Sacramento to meet with our elected officials to remind them that people of faith care about the climate change crises, and we want to see our legislators take action!
We met with over 30 leaders in the Senate and the Assembly, from both sides of the aisle, to ask for their support on three key bills:
AB 560: This bill would raise the current cap on solar produced from the rooftops of homes and congregations from 2.5% to 10%. According to Vote Solar and the Solar Alliance, this bill is a necessity if we are to keep the solar market growing.
AB 1404: This bill would limit the amount of offsets allowed to implement the carbon emissions reduction requirements of AB 32 to 10%. This is important because it will allow California to retain the important air quality benefits of keeping the carbon reducitons in state.
SB 14: This bill would raise the Renewable Portfolio Standard to 33% by 2020, and help grow the market for renewable energy.
We'll be sending out action alerts soon on which legislators to contact as the bills move through the system, so stay tuned!

What is CIPL?
California Interfaith Power and Light (CIPL) is galvanizing a religious response to global warming as the moral issue of our time. All major faith traditions call us to be good stewards of the earth, therefore we must work together to address the grave threat to humanity and all of Creation posed by global warming. Since our founding in 2001, we have mobilized religious support for landmark legislation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in California, educated hundreds of thousands of congregants, and worked with every major religious denomination in the state. CIPL member congregations are leading by example, reducing CO2 emissions in our own houses of worship by over 20 million pounds.
Over 500 congregations of many diverse faith traditions are members of CIPL. Is yours?
